Buying a business

We live in difficult, and uncertain times and we believe that Government should take a lead in providing advice and assistance where possible to people who are considering buying a business for the first time.

There is a considerable amount of advice and support available to those entrepreneurs with a good idea who wish to start a business, however, it is a different matter when you want to buy a business.

See our full campaign prospectus here

There are thousands of good businesses to buy out there. Very often the only thing stopping someone ‘striking out on their own’ is the fear of being ‘on their own’. A package of support and advice from Government agencies for the first few months would provide invaluable assistance that may just make the difference between a sale or not. Many of these measures are already being provided to new business start-ups, and it is our argument that you would return benefits in equal or even greater measure by making this assistance available to those buying a business for the first time.

So what can I do?

We will lobby Government and elected representatives on both sides of the house to consider a ‘basket of support and advice’ for people buying a business for the first time. We intend to involve banks, accountants, solicitors as well as all other Business Transfer Agents in this drive to support entrepreneurship.

We see the end result as a government led initiative that will benefit everyone involved in buying or selling a business, not just RTA and its clients.

If you feel as we do, that the Government could do more to help, then please add your name to our petition. Your support may just make the difference between a sale and purchase, or a business closure.

There are so many good businesses available to be bought. A huge opportunity to go it alone and make a success so why can't we borrow the money? We need encouragement and motivation so who is going to help us?

Trouble is we only have 2 choices when we vote one lot of idiots called Labour and the other Tories/Lib. They are not intrested in the small business we are just there to be unpaid tax collectors. Now that VAT is 20% it's time to sell up and depart and join the expats down in Spain. Good luck to any one going into Being self employed the better you do the more they want, you end up with more staff and more stress.

The country is in total disarray. What chance have we small business owners. I really believe we have no hope. Years of hard work for what? Break our backs and break our spirit.

I wud say that is a little cynical. the government could certainly do more i agree.

The fact is these days that no one really cares. Apathy rules the world. We are all guilty. We know power corrupts and those at the top trade on greed. We the people know it goes on but do nothing about it and simply roll over. The banks do not listen to the government and the government know it. Those in power both in the banks and government just nod and wink at one another with no concern for the interests of the British public. Those that do protest are simply a minor irritation that eventually go away because it is all too much trouble. As I said, apathy!

It is simple. Lending money gets the country out of recession. Lending it recklessly as the banks have done previously puts us in recession. At the moment the banks are doing nothing to help the UK economy and the government should be forcing the issue. I love the idea mooted by someone for "The Peoples Bank'. What a great idea.Give the people who pay the bonuses.

How wrong is this government ?

It's amazing that there is no encouragement or support to buy your own business. The benefits to the government, the economy and the country seems so obvious.

I started looking for my own business a month ago and didn't realise the level and extent of availability. There are some fantastic opportunities and I am amazed that owning your own business is not encouraged. Not tried the banks yet so that may be a stumbling block but having seen what I have I support this campaign.

I do not believe that the likes of Tesco can be restricted. After all they create jobs and pay tax and vat. The key is to encourage other businesses to compete. To do this banks must make money available. So, why does the government establish the 'Peoples Bank' and encourage British business and all that profit and all those bonuses can go.......... to the people. You can have that idea for free Mr Cameron.
