April 2009
2009 has seen the deepest worldwide recession ever known but this recession is different to those previously experienced. Firstly, rarely is a recession felt worldwide and secondly, those largely affected are people in business that rely upon their customers or clients borrowing money to purchase their goods or products.

Most governments worldwide have endeavoured to ease the burden to the public at large by reducing interest rates to put money back in their pockets and whilst it would be easy to look at the ´recession´ negatively, it is the opportunities that it brings that should be focused upon.

Here at RTA we have a European wide client base so we see and can measure trends over a vast area. As such we have no shortage of potential buyers both here in the UK but also in Spain and Ireland and through our associate company La Salle Corporate Finance we have access to all the major banks together with private lenders which enables us to finance cheaper than ever the business opportunities we are marketing.

No matter what the climate, there is always someone seeking to sell and another seeking to buy a business. We are experiencing some unique and exciting opportunities coming to the market at this time and with such low interest rates there has never been a better time to buy.

As a company our services are in huge demand. With three European franchises already up and running we are currently negotiating with new franchisees for North and South Costa del sol, Almeria and Alicante. Further negotiations are in hand for master franchises in Scandinavia, Cyprus, Portugal and North America.

This global network gives RTA a unique exposure to a worldwide market and together with our revolutionary video promotion this enables us to not only sell but more importantly achieve the best possible price for our clients.

We are delighted to welcome Paul Baynes as our latest franchisee based in Palma Nova, Majorca.

Paul has been involved in business sales in Majorca for some time and therefore has considerable knowledge of the area and the opportunities available. Paul currently has around 400 business opportunities available to be purchased on this highly sought after island as well as neighboring Menorca.

Prior to moving to Majorca Paul spent some 35 years as a Para Legal in Manchester and the North West of England and has therefore clearly been aware of RTA for some considerable time bearing in mind he was based local to our head office in Stockport.

Paul brings a wealth of experience to both RTA and the Business Sales industry and we wish him every success with this new venture. For anyone wishing to buy or sell a business in either Majorca or Menorca, Paul can be contacted on 0034 971 573973 or if visiting the region then why not meet up with Paul at the new offices at Avenida De La Playa, 5 Local 1.07181 Palma Nova, Majorca.

This is an exciting time for the company as a whole. Despite the current economic climate we are continuing to expand and invite enquiries from anyone seeking a franchise opportunity in Europe and beyond. This is an opportunity to own and operate your own agency under the branding of RTA and with full back up support.

For those highly entrepreneurial individuals out there, we offer countrywide master franchises that enable you to then sell on sub franchises thereafter thus earning additional monies from your sub franchisees. We are currently in negotiations with clients in the United States, Mexico, Cyprus, France and Russia but continue to invite enquiries for these countries and beyond.

We are also keen to talk to individuals that would be interested in Master Franchises for India and China as well as South Africa and Australia which are countries we are keen to move in to.

These opportunities will only come around once so why not visit our franchise website at www.RTA-Franchise.com or contact our International Sales Director on +34 966 492 588. Alternatively you can email at franchise@rta-europe.com

Joe Blogs?
Blogs on the face of it appear to be a great idea, the sharing of information can help enlighten and educate, and some blogs do indeed fulfil this role. However, the other side of the coin is the false and inaccurate information that is put into ‘cyber space’ by the many individuals that simply want to create harm and upset to others. This is simply unfair.

Many blogs are screened by the site owners who choose what ‘posts’ they want to appear and, of course, those that they do not, and this often creates a false picture. There is no legal right of reply therefore someone describing them self as ‘anonymous’ or ‘upset from Croydon’ can tell complete lies about a situation, and those on the receiving end have no automatic right to post a response. Clearly this is unfair, so how does someone establish who ‘anonymous’ or ‘upset from Croydon’ is in order to speak to them?

Many businesses, particularly in the service industry, are now becoming the targets of a smear campaign by people, often competitors, who are attempting to discredit them by using these blogs and by hiding behind bogus and anonymous names. As ‘blogging’ is a fairly new phenomenon then ultimately this will change in future as laws are introduced in order that individuals making these comments will have to make themselves public, but in the meantime we have to be realistic.

In these blogs, anyone can say virtually anything without having to prove it, and for this reason RTA do not run a blog on our site neither do we participate in posting on other blogs, particularly when we are not given the right to reply. We could easily run a blog of our own, and post our own comments each of which would say ‘satisfied of Stoke’ or ‘happy of Hants’ all of which would say how wonderful RTA are! Clearly this would be wrong.

The sharing of technical and educational information together with advice is a fantastic and valuable resource, but controls will eventually have come into place to stop anonymous people posting false, misleading and harmful propaganda for their own personal gain and satisfaction.

Any company involved in the service industry will have some clients that feel they have not received the level of service that they deserve, but participating in blog debates with people that are simply manipulating the situation for their own gain does not help resolve the matter. Anyone that is unhappy with regards to a service, should contact their service provider direct to resolve any issues they have.

Here at RTA we actively encourage our clients to liaise with us. We believe there are few issues that are cannot be resolved by talking, and would hope that other service providers agree with this ethos. If anyone has an issue with regards to blogs in general, or would like to discuss any particular issue then please do not hesitate to contact Ceri Edwards - Head Of Communications at RTA by emailing ceri.edwards@rtaonline.co.uk

June 2009
Business transfer specialist RTA announces further growth in Europe and the Middle East As part of our franchise development programme we are making available master franchises on a countrywide basis. With this in mind we are delighted to announce that we have appointed a master franchise for the countries of Cyprus and Greece, with a further option available to extend the territory to take in Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Egypt.

The first office will be opened in Cyprus in September 2009 with an ongoing commitment from the franchisee to develop a minimum of 7 offices by the end of December 2014 although it is expected that growth will exceed these initial objectives.

This is an ongoing franchise development programme with interest being expressed on a global scale, and advance negotiations are already in hand for master franchises elsewhere in the world. This franchise programme strengthens the RTA brand and provides all our clients with a huge worldwide network producing outstanding cross selling opportunities.

In addition to this development program, we are investing substantial resources in re-structuring our head office in order that we may deliver enhanced customer services to all our clients. Since the launch of this restructure on the 1st May this year we have seen our volume of viewings increase by 16% on April, and so far the month of June is showing a 10% increase on May. It is anticipated that sales levels will increase as a result.

RTA, both through its managed and franchised operations, is committed to delivering a comprehensive and professional service to all our clients whether here in the UK, Europe or beyond. With a determined commitment to deliver at every level, we are sure that the success we have achieved over the past 37 years will be continuous. Of course, for us to maintain our success then our clients must firstly be successful - successful in selling.

Executive chairman Paul O'Reilly says "Over the past 37 years RTA has achieved billions of pounds on behalf of our clients, providing them with due reward for the hard work and commitment that they have invested in their business. Over the next 37 years we hope to deliver more billions of pounds, Euros, dollars, yen and many other worldwide currencies.

This franchise development program is a significant step for our company, and one which will firmly establish our position as the market leaders in the fields of business transfer and sales. We are big enough to acknowledge our mistakes and look to swiftly rectify any identified failings. This commitment ensures we provide all our clients with the comprehensive and professional service they demand.

We are still amidst challenging times and this is where 37 years of experience should not be underestimated. Being a global service provider is not easy and therefore we are continuing to put together a highly experienced team of dedicated professionals to drive this development forward. Our franchisees are now able to capitalize on our vast experience and with a worldwide recognized brand, and unrivalled support, they are able to provide their clients with an exceptional level of service wherever they are in the world. We are now an International Company providing Local Expertise."

Paul Mitchell, Director of International Operations comments "In addition to our Master Franchise recruitment program which is progressing well, RTA also has its own network of regional franchised offices already up and running in several locations in Spain. Further franchise opportunities exist to take over the running of established company owned territories in the Costa del Sol, Almeria and Tenerife."

RTA continues to attract considerable interest, with daily requests for information on possible master franchises and sub franchise opportunities. Anyone interested should contact Director - International Operations on +34 625 546110 or email: franchise@rta-europe.com

Improving our customer service
RTA have already invested heavily in technology to drive the Company forward. Every year new areas of investment are targeted, the market is researched and when areas for improvement are identified an investment is made.

To enable us to drive our service forward and to enhance our Customer Services relationship we have called upon our good friends at Britannia Business Systems in Bolton with whom we have been associated for over ten years. Ben St.Barbe at Britannia Business Systems has assisted us in reviewing our telecommunication systems and on the weekend of the 4th of July we will be installing a new integrated telephone system with a range of facilities that will enable us to deliver increased customer service relations.

This is an initial investment in a module system that will be further developed over the next twelve months with the integration of other facilities that simply befits the Global Company RTA has now become and thus becomes a requirement to deliver a Global Service.

We expect this transition to be relatively smooth and simple and there should be no interruption to our day to day services. As with the implementation of any new systems there can often be teething problems and therefore we would ask anyone that may be affected to be understanding during this time as inevitably once fully operational the benefits to one and all should be immediate.

Focus on Post Offices      JULY 2009
Despite the fact that we are continually bombarded with ‘doom and gloom’ by the National press, who would have us believe that everyday life is about to revert to conditions last experienced by iron age man, there are many areas of business that are showing signs of increased activity. One such area is that of Post offices.

Traditionally buying and owning a Post Office was seen as a secure investment in a reputable, highly regarded business with a committed and loyal customer base. The sub-post master or post mistress was the ‘pillar of the local community’ or the centre of village life, and to live in an area without a post office was unthinkable. Then, along came the revolutionaries and reformers who would overlook years of tradition, and the needs of the community, in order to encourage us to drive our 4x4’s to the ‘edge of town’ superstore to buy our groceries, and to do our banking with faceless multinational bankers who could the invest our wages and pensions in risky, volatile schemes in order to provide the bonuses necessary for them to drive their own 4x4 to the superstore etc. etc.

Now, during an artificial ‘boom time’ fuelled by indiscriminate lending, this system works for those who can afford it. But, hang on! Aren’t we in the middle of a worldwide economic recession? Have we not just seen the results of banker’s scant regard for the customer? Is there not a real yearning for face to face, genuine, trustworthy service? The answer is a resounding YES.

Many people have lost trust in the high living, get rich quick schemes of the silver tongued PR executives and their glossy adverts, and yearn for a reliable, trusted, local service from a person who plays a central part in their community.

Suddenly the government are listening. Take a look at BERR’s report on post offices, recently commissioned and entitled ‘Post offices – securing their future’. The conclusions are that the Post Office network is something to be treasured, protected and developed. The conclusions are here.

A quotation from the BERR committee chairman - MP Peter Luff. "Having looked in depth at the issues confronting the post office network we are convinced that, given sufficient political will from both central and local government and a real determination to sustain and develop a priceless national asset, there is no reason why the network cannot flourish again, serving the whole nation in a uniquely valuable way."

Further evidence of the changing mood towards Post Offices comes from the Federation of Small Businesses’ Clive Davenport who writes in The Guardian arguing for the current governments support and development of the network. But what if the Tories win the next election I hear you ask? Well, a recent Daily Telegraph article by reporters Andrew Porter and Christopher Hope shows the level importance and commitment to the network attributed to a future Conservative Government.

Whichever way you look at it, the future of the Post Office as an investment in a small business has never looked better. Providing a service to the local community from a brand recognised by generations of people as a ‘pillar of stability and trust’, coupled with the inevitable development of the range of financial services on offer to the client is a recipe for success. Couple this with the fact that many Post Offices double up as convenience stores and you have even more reason to be excited about the prospect of owning your own business

RTA Website News - Your opinion is important to us - September 2009
The recession is something of which none of us have any control. Both as a nation and as a company we have been here in the past and it is a question of working through those difficult times to the best of our ability.

Eventually there becomes a glimmer of hope and in the month of August we saw the second largest level of viewings in a month during the course of this year. So far the projections for September is that this month will be the highest volume of viewings that we have seen all year and therefore the signs are looking good.

Without doubt much of this can be put down to changes within our working procedures. We have reviewed the way that we work and have taken on board criticisms that may have been levelled at us and clearly our hard work and effort is now appearing to pay dividends which will be to the benefit of all our clients.

Enhanced advertising and marketing, video promotion, improved customer service relations and a general increase in commitment and working levels from all our staff have contributed towards this. RTA are the largest advertiser of businesses for sale throughout Europe. Our advertising and marketing is second to none and we are at the forefront of innovative new products such as video advertising.

For RTA to be as successful as we are then firstly we need our clients to be successful – successful in selling! If we advertise more then it goes without saying we sell more and whilst it is very easy to criticise, one cannot dispute the fact that in over 35 years of trading RTA have sold thousands of businesses achieving many billions of pounds for many satisfied clients.

But we are certainly not complacent. The old saying “it is difficult to get to the top but it is harder to stay there” is certainly most apt. Those that are market leaders in their field such as RTA are there to be “shot at” and it is a sad fact that jealousy of success has always been endemic within the UK and if others spent more time on improving their own service and less time on criticising others, then they may achieve similar success.

2009 has been the worst recession that this country has seen for over 20 years and yet during this time RTA has grown into a global company with offices in Ireland, Spain, Majorca and Cyprus with negotiations in hand to extend into India and throughout the USA. As would be expected we are now planning for 2010 with the introduction of new and exciting projects and as usual we will update you on a regular basis.

In the meantime we welcome the opinions and observations of all those that are in business, work with us, or are existing customers; particularly if there are any ideas out there that may assist us in our growth and development. Please do not hesitate to email our business development Director Ceri Edwards at ceriedwards@gmail.com

Light at the end of the tunnel? Definately! - October 2009
Could the current recession be over? It is always difficult to predict but we must take positive signs as encouragement that we may be on the way out and things are looking up.

September was our busiest month for viewings since August 2008 and during the month of September we also saw the highest value of sales achieved this year and therefore, as already mentioned, we have to take this as a positive sign and hope that this trend continues throughout October and the rest of this current year.

Despite this being a tough year for the market, RTA have continued to be the largest advertiser of businesses for sale, not just in the UK, but throughout Europe. Our advertising and marketing is second to none and we thank our close friends at Daltons Weekly for their continued support during these difficult times. Daltons Weekly is the largest printed media for businesses for sale throughout the UK and the advertising undertaken by RTA in this medium is unrivalled.

It is easy to criticise and inevitably people will, but here at RTA we have a commitment to all our clients and that is to give them the maximum exposure possible to potential business buyers. We are proud here at RTA that we “think out of the box”. We do not follow the crowd and we are innovative and forward thinking which are the fundamental principles of our success.

We have proven this year that our outstanding marketing has ensured continued success for our clients. Our website shows examples of some recent, successful sales transacted by us and the following are just a few comments from satisfied customers.

“Thank you very much for all your help and hard work with the sale. It was a great help to be able to deal with you every time I phoned RTA to check the process of the sale. It was also re-assuring to know that it was always yourself who rang me with any information about the sale as very often when you ring an organisation you often get to talk to a different person every time you ring”.

Roger Lee, The Tasty Takeaway, Worcester.

“I am writing to express my appreciation at the manner at which this transaction was dealt with. A client was found who was enthusiastic for the purchase and your staff handled the whole thing from start to finish very efficiently and courteously. I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly the sale went. Many thanks”.

A Salamone, The White Hart, Leamington Spa.

“We are delighted that our sale has now completed. We were very happy with our contact with you and your updates on progress etc”.

Kate & Peter Crouch, Amesbury, Wiltshire.

It is impossible for us to list all our sales and therefore satisfied customers. Most of our clients want confidentiality and this is an element that we respect but, as we have said for the past 37 years, for RTA to be as successful as we are then firstly our clients have to be successful – successful in selling.

Type into Google “business for sale” or “café for sale” or “pub for sale” and, generally speaking, RTA come top and therefore you will understand why more people talk to us when they are either buying or selling a business.

Difficult times make you evaluate what you do and how you do it. It is essential to take on board constructive criticism and it is essential to make changes that benefit both your business and your clients. Here at RTA we take our obligations seriously and during this year we have made considerable changes to our working procedures and we are pleased to say that both we and our clients are already seeing the benefits of this.

Please be assured this will be an ongoing programme and we look forward to the forthcoming New Year when we hope that we can firmly put the recession behind us and continue to achieve both in the UK, Europe and beyond an even greater success than has been achieved over the past 37 years.

May we take this opportunity of thanking all our clients both past and present, together with our staff, trading partners and suppliers for their tremendous support and best wishes during what has been a difficult, sometimes turbulent, but definitely an interesting year. No-one always gets it right but our ongoing success will hopefully show that we are undoubtedly the best at what we do.

Businesses selling - New RTA franchises - We are looking forward to 2010 with confidence.                -                December 2009
We are delighted to announce the opening of three new franchised offices bringing our total this year to eight. We welcome Ken and Carol Sutton who this week are opening an office in Mojacar Playa in Almeria to cover the provinces of Almeria & Granada.

Prominently situated beach front, next to the Caja Murcia Bank on the main thoroughfare through Mojacar Playa, Ken and Carol will be well positioned to provide a range of business opportunities for those seeking to move to this exciting and developing region.

Our best wishes go to Mervyn Hughes and Charlotte Didier who have taken the franchise for Costa del Sol East and have set up an office in Avenida Ramon y Cajal at the heart of the popular resort of Fuengirola. Mervyn and Charlotte are highly successful owners of various businesses in Spain and bring a wealth of local knowledge to RTA and we wish them every success in their new venture.

Juan Antonia Giraldz Restrero has taken up the exciting opportunity of the franchise for Madrid being Spain’s capital city. This is the first “true” Spanish franchise and Juan Antonio is looking to develop the RTA name and service throughout the Spanish community.

Madrid is an exciting opportunity for RTA as a whole and will assist us to develop the many other major towns and cities throughout the country with Juan Antonio already having taken an option to purchase Occidental Andalucia at some point in the future, this territory comprising of four provinces being Sevilla, Huelva, Cordoba and Cadiz.

With a generalised and strong belief that the worst of the recession is over, here at RTA we are delighted to have achieved this level of success during such difficult times. It is clear that the RTA name is synonymous far and wide with professionalism and expertise and we look forward to 2010 in order to develop and expand our network even further.

No matter what the economic climate there is always an investor seeking a successful business opportunity and here at RTA we are well placed to put a comprehensive range of business opportunities in front of thousands of potential investors on a world wide scale.

In its own right, an RTA franchise is a strong investment in itself especially taking into consideration a growing and expanding market. Worldwide franchise opportunities are available including countrywide master franchises and opportunities can be discussed at length with our International Franchise Director Paul Mitchell by emailing him at paul.mitchell@rta-europe.com.
During 2009 RTA have listed in the region of £1 billion of business opportunities throughout the UK and Europe. With some 10,000 business opportunities currently available we are by far the largest business transfer agent worldwide and with a developing network this can only enhance our growing reputation. We are committed to achieving for our clients the best price possible and our access to a global market is second to none.
We look forward to 2010 with the same passion, commitment and drive to develop the worldwide RTA brand.

Paul O’Reilly – Executive chairman.

FEBRUARY 2010

WHAT A START!

We have heard it all before! The Government tries to hype up the economy and issues a statement that the recession is officially over. Events of the past 12 months have made many of us cynical and it is very easy for us to dismiss such statements but here at RTA we can only talk from personal experiences.

In January we experienced a 50% increase in viewings compared to January 2009. More people registered on our website looking to buy a business than we have seen since May 2009 and more business sales information was downloaded since we began to record such information.

It would be impossible to deny that this is a significant improvement and if this does indicate the recession is over, then we will all be as delighted as one another. Taking our viewings so far in February, we project that February will see more viewings than we have experienced since August 2008 and therefore this ultimately will reflect in an increased level of sales.

Of course we are not going to allow the Government to take full credit for this. Here at RTA we invest significant funds in advertising and marketing over a wide range of specialist media and websites and have a significant level of staff always working hard on behalf of our clients to achieve viewings and sales.

We have ongoing investments being made to drive the business forward with a further major change in our strategy this year being the amendment to our web domain.

Formerly www.rtaonline.co.uk our web domain is now www.rtabusinessesforsale.com which will assist in driving more enquiries to our site and assisting us in raising our profile on all the major search engines.

There is an old saying that it is “difficult to get to the top, but harder to stay there”. RTA are undoubtedly the largest and most successful business sales agency throughout Europe and to maintain this position requires considerable commitment, foresight and investment and this will be continually maintained for the benefit of all our clients.

P F O’Reilly

Executive Chairman

FEBRUARY 2010                                  A NEW APPOINTMENT
We are delighted to announce that Howard Lee has been appointed as Operations Director. Following a successful 2 years in his role as National Sales Director, Howard has taken over the management of the individual departments within the RTA organisation with a view to improving efficiency and productivity.

This appointment underpins the ethos here at RTA of continual investment and development in key areas that provide both growth for the company and efficiency of service to the benefit of our substantial client base.

We take this opportunity of wishing Howard well in this role and look forward to 2010 being another successful year for the company.

March 1st
What an incredible month February has been. We have seen the largest level of viewings since August 2008 and the highest level of firm interest since June 2008 which would suggest that we may well be over the worst in respect of the current recession.

We do have to thank our good friends at ‘Totally Webwise’ to manage our website. They have undertaken a tremendous job this year and their search engine optimisation ensures that our website is at the forefront when it comes to businesses for sale. More people registered on our website in February since we started keeping records and therefore clearly a mixture of resources is ensuring that RTA remain the market leaders in our field.

During the recession RTA have never cut back on advertising and marketing. We have maintained our consistent levels for the benefit of all our clients and we have not followed the trend of other agents of cutting back in this highly important area.

This consistent exposure appears to be now paying dividends and as we come out of the recession RTA are well positioned to take advantage of any upturn and ensure that the benefits are passed on to our clients.

We have wide ranging interest across many sectors. The care sector has continued to be steady throughout recent times and we have now seen an increase in the leisure sector with particular emphasise on caravan parks which appear to be in great demand at this time. Indeed, we have recently listed two caravan parks, one in Somerset and one in Scotland and interest is already being expressed in them both. Convenience stores with large turnovers are also proving to be popular and quality, country house hotels are currently in short supply but with great demand.

With Spring approaching and hopefully better weather, we are likely to see a further increased level of viewings which inevitably will result in sales and therefore we are extremely optimistic for the future.
